"Something's Up" In America's Big Berg
featuring
Selected Poems from The Alaska Mystery Collection
and The Tree Series

November 18, 2012.
Hard to believe I've been back in L.A. for two weeks, and some things in life just seem to Heaven Sent, such as this heart shaped balloon with "I Love You" printed on it. It was lying on the sidewalk at the edge of the front yard of the place I'm currently staying, just a few days after I returned. I noticed it as I stepped out to do some errands, but left it on the sidewalk where it remained for a day or two. The gardener must have placed it in the post, as I doubt it levitated itself the 30 feet or so from the edge of the lawn to its current position.
I probably wouldn't have thought much about it, other than someone must have accidently dropped it, except for the recent series of events in my life, and Jeff's use of those same words, during his brief visit to meet me in Charlotte, NC, and context is everything. Have a read through the chapter 1984 and Beyond!, of this story, and you'll see a few dots connected.

I don't believe in coincidences, for the most part, and if the ballon had any other words such as "Happy Birthday," "Congratulations!," or "It's a Boy!," etc., I wouldn't have bothered to photograph it, and use it for this chapter heading. On the other hand, why let the Perfect opportunity for a prop pass by? I feel loved, I love living in California, and according to my deceased Mother, "The Government is Always Watching." Based on some highly unusual and seemingly connected events in my life, Mom was probably right about those peering Elf Eyes, roamin' regularly around me. Take your pick as to how you want to interpret such a fortuitous find, almost literally at my doorstep.
I have yet to read the original George Orwell story "1984," but I know it's a classic, and he was apparently well ahead of his time, from what I've heard and read about the story. Just another Soothsayer, so it seems.
Jeff's take on Orwell's 1984, as he wrote in an email below, is probably not the most prevelant, but to each his own.
I suppose it could, but aren't we and they in a some sorta allied agreement? If so, Lone Ranger doesn't get to make their own decisions, right? No need to read what I'm living. It's one thing to know something, and the first
few pages I read enhanced the creep factor of daily life. Why not just use my life
story for the first 15 yrs. as a base to tell yours? And you can certainly fill in any segments I don't recall, and every movement in recent years.
Why would WYNN build another casino in Macau?

"has israels back" cough cough could mean they turned their back to US.......right?
i sort of started and might find it but a list of confusable s would help for the real purpose of the story that i would like to write and it seems you might like to co-author with me
but one that ill put down is the difference or could be difference between Chicago- chitown and what could call shytown..........
but if we both had a ready to go confusable list it could help and maybe we could start the book with a list of new "news speak"
i wish you could or would read 1984 its a wonderful love story.............

It's been a coupla years now, since Jeff first mentioned I read 1984, so I suppose I'll give it another go, and borrow it from the library soon. I might have missed something important, or interesting.
I've never read Animal Farm either, or at least I don't remember reading it.
I think both 1984 and AF were required reading in high school English classes, but I took my Jr. and Sr. years simultaneously, and my Sr. English credit was via correspondence, so if those books and others were Sr. reading requirements in my school only, I wouldn't have read them. I was writing papers about The Canterbury Tales, and Beuwolf.
Yes, I'll pick it up this week; I have The Witch of Blackbird Pond on hold and ready to p/u. I thought about it a few weeks ago, so there must be something in there I need to read again. Budget cuts have the libraries closed Sun/Mon now. Sucks. Even if they could be open fewer hrs. but 6 or 7 days would be much better.
