"Something's Up" In America's Big Berg
featuring
Selected Poems from The Alaska Mystery Collection
and The Tree Series
by Paula Marie Rose
What began as a series of emails between Shannon and me; somehow morphed into a blazing blitz of BS by my family members. I have so many emails; it's a huge job to hunt and sift, because some used the reply button at times, others not. You'll get the idea for these below that "Something's Up," as many are yammering on with plenty of words, but never about whatever topic or event fired them all up. Everybody wanted to get in the act, and felt free to voice their opinion about whatever "problem" they thought that I might have; sure would have been helpful if they had addressed whatever it was.
When I smell Dead Fish, I know what that means, in my frame of reference. And when I see BS in writing; there's no doubt about it.
In the spirit of keeping a most unusual situation light, you'll see my sense of humor come through in the most of the emails. We are all known for our rather dry sense of humor and have used nickname monikers in the past. Mark chose "Jim Rockford" for himself years ago. We all enjoyed "The Rockford Files" TV series as kids.

Dear Anna,
Glad to see you have added Mom and Dad to the round robin. We've all be getting on rather well; past relations all considered.
No "fear or anger filled universe" in my life; perhaps you need a reality check on yours?
Lighten up!!! Breathe.

Dear Paula,
If you don't realize the truth of what your daughter
wrote to you, nothing that any of the rest of us say
is going to sink in.
If indeed Val's peace of mind is of utmost importance
to you, please pay attention to her request that you
get some help. If you don't know where to start,
please contact the one of us you trust the most and
ask. Ask Mom or Dad right now. Any of us would do
anything in our power to assist you in locating the
appropriate professionals, and would wholeheartedly
support you while you worked with them toward health.
You are my sister, Paula, and I love you. I cannot
help you find a "truth" that only exists in your fear-
and anger-filled universe, but I am absolutely, always
willing to help you seek health in this one.

Hi Paula -
It is unfortunate that you find the missing person
report so funny.
I assure you Val, Claire, Eric, Anna, Mark, Gail and
I did not find any of it amusing. We were trying to
ascertain who would be the best person to initiate the
report. (It is best done by a family member). I
provided a current photo for it. Yes, contrary to
your beliefs, we (sibs included) were truly worried
about you and your well-being).
We will never know if you were traveling, were in an
alcohol rehab facility, were holed up in your bedroom
or any other conclusion we could jump to. Only you
know what the true circumstances were. As I mentioned
previously, I am comfortable with my "level of over
reaction" exhibited on your behalf. I did what a good
friend who loves you would do and I'd do the same
again in a heartbeat.
Eric and myself are not family, Val had enough going
on with moving south and Anna (having previous
experience in MP reports) said she'd do it and she did
(Jewel told Anna she filed one as well). I know
Val/Anna/Gail/Eric spoke to Jewel, Steve, Lian, Jerry
and others out of concern for you. All of them
inicated you were behaving strangely and out of
character.
I know Anna was in Juneau (on her cruise) and was with
Beth when she was talking to the PD, so I'm sure Beth
can confirm these events for you as my word is so
untrusted.
You, being the MP, are entitled to your very own copy
of the MP report, just contact the Tarzana PD for it.
Val contacted a number of PDs trying to get the right
jurisdiction.
I don't find any of this "interesting" as you do.
Even serial killers get a chance to defend themselves
in their day in court. Apparently I do not.
Do not move to Juneau with the intention of solving
this "mystery" on my account. It really isn't
necessary. What is done is done. I will not be able
to convince you that I did not betray you. If your
belief that I betrayed you caused all of this to
happen then I no longer wish to have such a huge
responsibility. Ceasing contact with your girls due
to upset with me is wrong. Upsetting and worrying
them is unforgiveable.
Just as you no longer trust me, the reverse is true. I
no longer trust your judgment and I do not wish to be
vulnerable to further hurt. You know all of my
secrets, just as I know what you have chosen to tell
me. Apparently secrets have become ammunition in some
sort of battle that I wish no part of. Intimacy and
trust are not easy for either of us and will be even
more difficult as a result of all this drama.
I have received nothing positive since July for the
privilege of "being your friend". Only a lot of
negatives, I've devoted way to much time, worry,
effort and emotion to this whole "chain reaction" as
you put it. Terry and my kids deserve better as do I.
I am forwarding copies to all involved as this ends my
involvement in your life.
Good luck, be happy, enjoy your terrific girls and
remember life is short.
I've enjoyed and appreciated our good times, thank
you for the memories. Be well.

...Your dealings with your girls are none of my business.
(of course I love all of you and want everyone to be
happy and hated to see them and me worried and
upset).
I don't really know what you are referring to about
the strange goings on in Juneau or what puzzle you
hope to solve. So I can't really offer assistance in
that regard.
Going from prounouncing you are never talking to
anyone in Juneau again to moving here seems a bit
inconsistent.
I do feel you acted badly toward me and that I deserve
better treatment. It was as painful as getting dumped
by a significant other would have been. You do not
sound willing to take any responsibility in any of
this. As a result, I will be proceeding very
cautiously in future relationships. I have enough
stressors in my life without unexplained drama.
Happy Halloween and enjoy your heatwave. Hope the
fire stays south of your area. It is a balmy 38
degrees and raining at the moment.
Love you
Shannon
