"Something's Up" In America's Big Berg

Selected Poems from The Alaska Mystery Collection

A former Senator from Alaska, with many years of service. I haven't studied Senator Gravel's career, and don't know much about him.
As the old saying goes; "believe half of what you read, and none of what you hear." Especially in the case of a political figure; I assumed that the saying applied. Seemed like a perfect opportunity to hand a clean slate to a political figure, and to let him have his say.
I emailed him a few statements and questions through his campaign website, on December 29, 2007 and have not yet received a reply. I had cut and pasted it to my Yahoo email, as his site system was a direct email service.
Was it something I said?? Or perhaps he is busy, and a staffer didn't feel qualified to respond?
I also read his Q and A Sheet on the Whistleblowers.org site, and have asked them in an email dated April 18, 2008 for reprinting permission, but have not yet received a reply from them.
NOTE: In my April 18, 2008 email to Whistleblowers.org I made a typo and the date of December 30, 2007 appears in that email where I made a reference to the email to Senator Gravel.

Hello Senator Gravel,
As an Alaskan resident for much of my life, I recall
hearing your name in the news frequently. To date, your list
of professional accomplishments is impressive, and I wish
you every success in winning the upcoming Presidential election.
I am currently writing a book on the history of Alaska spanning between 1935 to present day, specifically focusing on rumors of political corruption, the influence of organized crime, possible kickbacks and payoffs between territorial (and later state) officials and the construction industry, etc.
Basically, it is an overview of the growth and development of Alaska. Obviously, in daily life there are always "favors" and "special considerations" which keep the wheels of government, industries, and constituents lives moving forward.
Those practices are accepted and understood workings of
the world, and not of the scale my book is about. I shall be highlighting major wrongdoings, illegal, or fraudulent
activities which might have been occurring in the Frozen Fiefdom that operates much like a Banana Republic.
As you might imagine, my information gathering process has been met with a variety of reactions; mainly extreme displeasure, and silence. That reaction alone raised the red flags. I was pleased to see your positive responses to the survey you have completed and is posted on www.whistleblowers.org. It was a relief to read that
someone of your power and influence will stand by the underdog. I too, have been a direct beneficiary of the
natural resources of Alaska, the Permanent Fund Dividend, and I am a former state employee. My goal is to complete an interesting story about Alaska, the people who built it, and those whose power shaped it.
Scandals are an element of any great story, and I shall
include only those which I have facts about. To date, my story is being written as Non Fiction, I may have to consider revising it to a fictional format; either way, I do expect it to generate quite a stir. If you know of anyone who might be interested in being interviewed, or who could provide background information on events prior to 1985, please forward my contact information to them. Also, if there are any specific people, groups, events, projects, etc. which you would prefer to be omitted from my book, please feel free to let me know.
It appears that there is so much material available, between the two of us, we can pick and choose to leave out anything you feel could be remotely connected to you or viewed as unflattering.
What is your current position on the proposed Alaska Gas
Pipeline? Other than the direct cash flow it will generate to the state coffers, and taxes to the federal government, how do you see its construction being a positive benefit to the rest of the country?
In your opinion, are the planned and unplanned environmental impacts and risks in line with those which occurred with the Alaska Oil Pipeline?
In my opinion, you are the best candidate running. Clearly, your competition carries incredible power, and has far reaching influence. Your past accomplishments and your stand on the current issues you have addressed on your website speak well of you as a Man, and as a Leader.
The very best to you, Senator. I hope to address you in the future as "Mr. President."
Respectfully,
Paula M. Rose
